How long is the recovery time from rhinoplasty?

All surgeons and every patient will have a different timeline.

Having witnessed the sometimes horrific bruising that accompanied this procedure when I was a young surgeon, I set out to find a way to develop what I call Rapid Recovery Rhinoplasty. It involves the use of desmopressin to make the platelets in the blood more efficient, then harvesting those platelets as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and adding tranexamic acid to the local anesthetic solution to stabilize bleeding after the surgery is completed. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY is what I do NOT use! I will not touch a patient with a traditional rasp, hammer or chisel. All bone work is done with ultra-high-frequency power tools (Piezotome) for an ultrasonic manipulation of the bony framework. It is so delicate that the surrounding soft tissues and highly vascular nasal lining under the bone are left undisturbed.

After one week the patient should be shout bruising but still with some swelling. By two weeks the nose should approximate it's final outcome. At 6 weeks 80% of edema has subsided in thin skin (60% in thick skin) and one to two years for complete resolution depending upon tissue thickness.

In certain cases where I cannot use desmopressin for medical reasons, we expect to see bruising. Accordingly, this is treated twice weekly with a tuneable dye laser (VBeam) until resolved.

 How safe is rhinoplasty?

Different techniques can be applied in nose aesthetics. These techniques include surgical and non-surgical techniques. Surgical techniques are divided between open and closed techniques. The methods, tools, devices, and shaping forms used in closed techniques continue to be divided among themselves. Criteria such as nasal esthetics without breaking, 3D imaging techniques, and minimal correction principles make differences in rhinoplasty.

What is the difference between open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty?

In a nasal aesthetic with an open technique, a small incision is made in my arm, which is a small skin column that separates the two nostrils from each other. This incision allows the skin of the nose to be lifted up from the tip of the nose. This is the only difference between the two techniques. In both open and closed rhinoplasty, multiple incisions can be made inside the nose, but in the open technique, there is another extra incision in the base of the nose. Once the healing is complete, the scar usually becomes invisible to the eye.

What are the advantages of the closed technique?

Closed rhinoplasty nose aesthetics is one of the most preferred surgical technicians today. Small incisions in both nostrils open the nose to eliminate problems. With the closed technique, there is no need to open the soft tissues in the nose skin and nose. This results in less damage to the skin and soft tissue. The healing process of the nose is accelerated. There is no scarring on the tip of the nose.

How can rhinoplasty be performed with closed or open technique?

Both techniques are performed under general or local anesthesia with an average of 1.5 hours of operation. The type of anesthesia to be used depends on the extent of the intervention, the general health status of the patient, and the choice of the patient and the surgeon. However, general anesthesia is preferred. After the surgery, silicone splints are used instead of tampons in the nose. On the nose, instead of gypsum, a small tape with a supporting feature adheres. Silicone splints are removed 2 or 3 days after surgery. In the closed technique, there is no need to remove the stitches thrown into the nose as self-melting stitches.

The healing process is much shorter since minimal stitches are used in the closed nose technique with closed technique. In addition, the risk of bruising and swelling is low as there is less soft tissue damage. The patient can resume normal life in about one week. Although the new form of the nose appears immediately in both techniques, it will continue to fully heal for 1 year.

How to apply nasal surgery without surgery?

By injecting dermal filler on and under the arch/lump/bump on the nose, the nose may appear more symmetrical and without a belt. In addition, by applying Botox and filling the tip of the nose, a thinner and symmetrical appearance can be obtained. Botox, the muscle pulling the nose down by injecting the nasal tip can be raised a little higher.

Botox and filler injections are prepared according to the needs of the patient. A topical drug with a calming effect is applied to the patient's nose and waited. Filling and botox are then applied to the areas marked on the nose with fine-tipped needles. The operation is painless and painless, which is performed in approximately 15 minutes. The patient should not wear glasses for only 5 days and must be protected from sunlight in the first week.

As the nose is not moved much, the results can last up to 12 to 18 months and can be even longer with repetitive treatments. The material used is not harmful to the body and can be excreted naturally. Thanks to this feature is a safe procedure. Redness and tenderness may develop spontaneously to the skin's sensitivity within a few days.

Was your rhinoplasty worth it?
 

You hear YES from most people and it's true but it depends. Rhinoplasty comes with a lot of other challenges as well besides that perfect nose you always wanted.

Firstly the recovery time is huge for rhinoplasty almost  years depending on the complexity of the procedure done, the changes you wanted in your nose being major or minor, and whether your skin is thick or thin.

Although there's no pain after the surgery, thanks to a lot of painkillers you will be taking. The pain is minor to a very little bearable one.

After 1 week when your cast is taken off, you get to see your nose but that's not your actual nose how it's gonna be, your nose will look big and ugly bc it will be swelled and the swelling takes 1 year to go down completely. Every month you'll see a little different nose. After 1 year you see your actual nose.

After your surgery, you aren't able to blow your nose for 2 & 4 months depending on the procedure done.

The day after your cast is taken off, your nose is oily, it has dead skin, acne, blackheads, itching, and irritation. Unfortunately, you can't do anything about it because you can't touch your nose until 4th week so you don't alter the results.

Keep this thing in mind, you can't go out like normal how you used to for at least months bc you are always cautious about your nose and not bumping or hitting it by any means. And this continues for  months until all the swelling goes down. So forget your normal active life for 1 year.

You will get scared every time if accidentally hit or touch your nose even little ones and this is gonna happen very often no matter how careful you try to be.You can't move your upper lip for a long time and your smile is affected which is temporary but lasts months.

After your surgery you have to sleep on your back with your head elevated for at least  weeks and if you're a side sleeper, get ready for sleepless weeks. This one is the most disturbing.

Post-operation depression which no one talks about. After your cast is taken off, not seeing the nose how you wanted it, slight unevenness between nostrils till your 6th month, waiting for your swelling to go down every day, not being able to itch or touch your nose. These all factors are so much to deal with every day.

Yes dealing with all this trauma but when you look into a mirror and you see your desired nose that you always wanted, all this just disappears for some minutes and you feel happy and strong to go through all this discomfort. But if you are someone who gets botched or doesn't like the shape of your new nose, you'll be the depressed whole of the time and broke too after all that money you spend on the procedure. Rhinoplasty is just like the game of cards, you don't know what you get until the card is turned over.

Trust me if you're someone who wants just a minor change in the nose, all this is not worth it. Dealing with all this is completely not worth it. But if you're someone who has a nose that's not very normal to the eyes and it hinders your day-to-day life in any way, all this discomfort won't be remembered after 1 or 2 years.
